Some time ago you advised a reader to use oven cleaner on mould. Now being in Sydney enduring many days of wet weather I tried some Selley’s oven cleaner wipes around my windows on what I suspect is the beginning of mould. Afterwards I did a Chat with Selley’s and they advised that this practice might damage the paint. Too late, I had done one room. Selley’s advised to go over it with vinegar which I have done. What are your thoughts please, before I tackle the next room.

Yes the caustic chemicals in oven cleaners can damage some older paints. An alternative is thickened bleach, although that may damage some paints too. Do a spot test on an inconspicuous area first
