It’s unlikely (but not impossible) that it’s been etched. Soap scum normally isn’t alkaline enough. I’ve been told that it can be removed with razor blades. A more likely explanation is that it’s insoluble salts (mostly sulphates). The good thing about razor blades is that they won’t damage the glass, as glass is harder than steel. Or you could try steel wool as well
You can reduce the caustic effect of soap etching your shower glass by spraying the shower with Coles Spray n Wipe (make sure the active ingredient is ‘lactic acid’) after you’ve had a shower.
Once the glass has been etched it can’t be undone. Etching is a physical breakdown of the glass by caustic agents in soap.
