Last year I purchased a front loader washing machine and now all my pure white bathroom towels and facecloths are starting to turn a dirty grey colour. When you look at them closely they look like they have a spidery black mould running through them. As someone in the family has health issues the towels are only used once before washing. I also only have white towels so its not colour running from other towels. Soaking and rewashing is not fixing the problem. I have a friend who is also having the same problem. Thank you for your help.

All my sheets & towels are white & I have a front load washer & they were starting to look dingy (also my husband’s inform includes white jeans & a white linen apron). I now use a long warm/hot cotton setting with Omo liquid & Nappee San + white vinegar in the softener dispenser. I also dry them outside (on a balcony, therefore some sunshine). Beautiful sparkling white.
What brand laundry detergent do you use? And what is your nrmal wash temperature. A short term solution would be to soak them in Vanish Gold Oxi-Action
Read through the owner’s manual too. Mine suggested putting a cycle through with a packet of magnesium sulphate. I bought a packet from my local pharmacy.
Hi Pete thanks for your reply. Will try a 90deg wash more often. Dont think its a fault with the machine as a friend purchased a different brand front loader washing machine and she is having the same problem as me (several months down the track too).

It sounds like it might be a problem with the washing machine. Make sure you do a 90° wash at least once a month to kill the germs as a normal 30-40° wash isn’t hot enough.
